Gynecological Annual Exams

An annual exam is the most important step you can take in preventing the most common women’s diseases.

Abnormal PAP Smears

If your pap smear resulted abnormal, we will follow up on your results and provide the adequate treatment for you. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus that may cause genital warts, abnormal pap smears, and cancer of the cervix, vulva and anus. There are several types of HPV. While for most women infection with HPV is transient, if persistent, a colposcopy may be indicated to diagnose the lesion and guide a specific treatment.

Uterine Bleeding

Prolonged menstrual periods, passing large clots of blood and bleeding longer than 8 days, can cause Anemia and the need for blood transfusions.

There are several reasons that may cause heavy menstrual flow such as hormonal imbalance, fibroids, polyps, infection, blood disorder, cancer and medications. Diagnosis is done with pelvic exam, blood tests, cultures, ultrasound and biopsy. Once identified the cause, your treatment is tailored depending on your age and whether or not you desire future pregnancy.

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), also known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, is a common health problem caused by an imbalance of reproductive hormones. The hormonal imbalance creates problems in the ovaries. Women may have difficulty to get pregnant and experience irregular periods, ovarian cysts, dark skin folds and increased facial hair or acne. Other metabolic diseases must be ruled out.

STD (Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections that are passed from one person to another through sexual contact. The causes of STDs are bacteria, parasites, and viruses. There are more than 20 types of STDs, including Chlamydia, Genital Herpes, Gonorrhea, HIV/AIDS, HPV, Syphilis, Trichomoniasis. Health problems can be more severe for women. If a pregnant woman has an STD, it can cause serious health problems for the baby.

Antibiotics can treat STDs caused by bacteria or parasites. There is no cure for STDs caused by a virus, but medicines can often help with the symptoms and keep the disease under control.

Most sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) have no symptoms, so it is difficult to know if you have been infected. Screening testing is recommended for anyone with multiple sexual partners, even if they are having protected sex, using condoms.
